I should have posted this earlier. The server that hosts the Biscom Secure File Transfer software
has been down for several days -- this is really anomalous, and points out some senses in which we need to develop redundancy for servers that support applications -- we'll find a way to do that.

Right now, Thinkmate technicians are replacing all the RAM. We hope to have the server up this afternoon.
We will keep you posted.

The Harvard University Site Licensing Office offers us the benefits of contracts they've negotiated with many vendors.
The attached file contains the software available to the medical affiliates. There's also an ordering form. The file is in pdf format and can be read by Adobe Reader or Preview (Mac.) Note that we already have a site license for Endnote. Harvard site licensing also offers multi-user licenses for Photoshop.

RE: Snow emergency

As of 2 pm today, The City of Boston has declared a snow emergency.
Dana-Farber clinics will remain open. However, we would ask that
you determine your essential clinical and operational personnel
and all others should be released immediately. The revised shuttle
schedule is posted on-line.

There have been many attempts recently by commercial services to store patient records. Some have been for individual patients whose records are distributed among many hospitals; others have resulted from small medical facilities who are not in an adequate position to provide electronic medical records. Now Google has entered the fray. If you're interested in knowing more, see the article and discussion at science.slashdot.org
